History of Penicuik Baptist Church

In the early 1970's a church planting work was started in Penicuik by an American missionary couple, Steve and Janice Worth. From very small beginnings where we met in homes for Bible studies and prayer we eventually, in 1972, formally joined together as a church.

Our meeting places have included a sports pavilion, local scout hut and classrooms in the high school. Eventually by the goodness of God we were able, in 1980, to purchase a building near the centre of Penicuik and gradually transformed it into a place of worship and outreach for the community and the surrounding areas. Also in the 1980's we adopted the 1689 Confession of Faith as our basis of faith.

Over the years we have done door to door visitation and tried to reach young and old alike with the gospel by holding Bible clubs, Sunday school and special outreach meetings.

Steve Worth was our pastor from 1972 to 2007 when he left to serve the Lord in Blackpool.
